ORP Provider Enrollment

The Ohio Department of Medicaid (ODM) application is available for therapists to begin the enrollment process to obtain a State Provider Number, which is required by the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The “Order, Refer, Prescribe” (ORP) mandate requires that all Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Speech-Language Therapists and Audiologists that perform ORP services must be enrolled in the State’s Medicaid Program.

Effective 10/01/2022, ODM requires that Referring Providers complete the Council for Affordable Quality Healthcare (CAQH) verification for the new credentialing requirement (Ohio Administrative Code 5160-1-42). It is recommended that providers complete the CAQH verification before they apply for their Medicaid number and before they complete the 3-year Medicaid number revalidations. After the CAQH verification is complete, Referring Providers are ready to complete the Medicaid Enrollment Application. The Medicaid Enrollment instructions provide step-by-step instructions to complete the application. The provider number must be in place before ORP therapists refer services in order for your district to be in compliance and receive reimbursement for any MSP services. HBS will be able to assist you with this process by email, phone, via webinar, etc. We can also arrange for a representative to come to your district and work with larger groups of therapists at one time. It is extremely important that you communicate to your therapists the importance of completing the application. Once a therapist obtains their Medicaid Provider Number, please send it to HBS by phone, fax or email.
